Streetwaves
13.09 (Saturday), Targ Węglowy (Coal Market), 4 p. m. -7 p. m.
May 2008 – stage at Zielona Brama (Green Gate) in Gdansk
Do you remember the Gdansk carillion that played Hey Jude and other Bealtes tunes on Sunday, May 18, this year? Did you come across bands playing acoustic versions of The Beatles in different parts of the Main Town? Maybe you came to the Green Gate when one of the Tricity bands was presenting their own original interpretation of Yesterday or Free as a bird? Or maybe you managed to see the gig of Pogodno which had its special Beatles leitmotif? The sky was cloudy that day, the wind was blowing hard and kept destroying our sound over and over again, and Lechia entered the premier league and couldn't refrain from announcing the news to us by waving their scarves like crazy.
Even Neptune remembers this day – he lost his leaf then and got Lechia’s scarf instead.
The Streetwaves competition was brought to Gdansk from Liverpool, the European Capital of Culture 2008 and one of our most important partner cities. California Stories Uncovered won and went to two big festivals in the northern England: Creamfields and Mathew Street.
September 2008 – open-air stage at Targ Węglowy (Coal Market)
On 13. September, Streetwaves will be back in Gdańsk - at the open-air stage at Targ Węglowy, as a starter for the Festival of World Cultures open-air concerts. We will see five bands from Liverpool – winners of the Liverpool edition of Streetwaves who are now touring around Europe and experiencing good and bad sides of being on tour.
California Stories Uncover will play as well – there will be a possibility to confront what is happening at the young music scene in Poland and in England.
The names of the bands won’t tell you much, but it’s worth going to their myspace profiles and then come to lour concert to see how they are doing on a big stage. After all, you never know if you're not watching the new Wombats, Zootons or Clinic!
All that there is to do is to check whether there’s any football match on this day. Whoever saw CSU running amok under the influence of thousands of whirling scarves, will surely come again to check if the guys can still make it!

What is it all about?
Streetwaves are organized in cooperation with Łaźnia Centre for Contemporary Art and the invaluable support from the Gdańsk City Council.
Streetwaves are a part of a programme of cooperation between towns that lie “on the edge” – the network “Cities on the Edge” was founded by Liverpool and it includes the following partners: Gdańsk, Bremen, Naples, Istanbul and Marseilles.
Streetwaves are our little common step on the Gdańsk’s way to the European Capital of Culture in 2016.
