Action Join In! Culturally

13.09. (Saturday) >Festival’s City > 12.00 – 18.00

Most of us travel around the world or at least around Europe and experience various lifestyles of other countries’ citizens.
In Madrid supper is served at 11 p.m. and people go to clubs at 1 a.m. at the earliest, in London or New York nightlife ends… with the end of the night, so practically as it actually should.
In Sopot there are a few clubs, that quite a lot of people go to- of course unless:
a)    the next day you have to go to work
b)    it is December 24th, 25th or 26th
c)    the last train has gone
d)    entrance is not free
Whereas if we go to Gdansk after 11.p.m., we can do it on our own risk and in not-clattering shoes, because the rumbling of our heels only in the deserted streets can depress us very much…
As the organizers of the cultural events in the Tri-City, together with the Association A Kuku Sztuka, we decided to work more thoroughly on the subject of silence and emptiness which reign so often in our city.
This July this under the patronage of Marshal of the Pomorskie Voivodeship and Presidents of Gdansk, Gdynia and Sopot, we started an action, which will answer the question why people do not go out of their homes to actively take part in cultural life and which will encourage them to change their lifestyles, at the same time livening up the area they move around everyday.

The action is called: „Jon In! Culturally” and it’s got a few ambitious aims:
1.    To analyse the scale and level of the Tri-city and surroundings’ inhabitants’ participation in cultural life ( during cultural events in Tri-city we carry out the questionnaires prepared by the sociological studies’ graduates and at the turn of September we are planning a questionnaire prepared by PBS.
2.    To unite the artists and municipal, independent and commercial organizers of the cultural parties in one common action encouraging people to participate in events organized by them (and by us).
3.    To improve the quality of the Tri-city’s cultural offer and to adjust it to exact needs of the participants’ groups (like age, preferences, physical or economic limits).
4.    To demand improvements together at the cities’ authorities and companies responsible for the public transport etc., and then aspire to implement them and make them function correctly.
5.    …there are a lot of aims and actually each of us/each of you could write some more which come to our/your minds.

On the occasion of our Festival of the World’s Cultures we want to give more international character to the action “Join In! Culturally”. We will try to reach foreigners living in the Tri-city and to find foreign tourists walking around the city.
How do they see us? How do they feel in our company? Which our traits irritate them? And last but not least: do they participate? Do they make clubbing and go to theaters? Where do they learn about events in the city Do they have good, in working order system of information about the city where they will spend sometimes even 6 years?

If we succeed to meet them in Gdansk at the beginning of September, we will talk with them about it trying to make some constructive conclusions from the conversations.

You can meet Action „Join In! Culturally” and its organisers on September 13th , Saturday, in the Multicity at Plac Kobzdeja and in Café Szafa.

On September 18th we encourage EVERYONE interested in the subject of taking part in culture,to the great debate dedicated to this problem- in the BSCC’s seat Old Town Hall, Korzenna Street 33/35, Gdansk.
